More About Me...

Hello, I am a German Shepard puppy. I was born here in California and have 5 other siblings I live with. My mother says we are blessed to have such a big family and she also tells me I am lucky to still have my Grandparents around. My Grandma is my owner and she loves me very much. Every day she takes me out for long walks with the family, bakes me my favorite biscuit treats, and always gives me attention!

Another Tit-Bit...

I couldn't be any more happier than I already am. Our family has so much to learn and right now I am going to dog obedience school. I've made so many other friends there like another pup named "Puggy" and his other friend is "Labby". Going to school is fun each day, but I prefer spending time playing and having my owners teach me how to fetch and do other tricks.

Train your Dog to Sit

Teaching your dog to sit and other basic commands is important in learning the fundamentals of obedience. There are a couple of ways you can teach your dog to sit. If your pet doesn’t like the first method you use, you could always try something different. Remember that all animals have their own personality, even if they are the same species – just like humans. You can teach a dog to sit by offering him a treat beforehand. This works very well most of the time. I encourage you to show you family members how to train your dog to sit so they can learn as well – you may not have a lot of time on your hands to do this and the kids could certainly pick up this fun task with their pet.

  • When you’re teaching your dog to sit, always be patient and understanding. Hold your treat directly above the dog’s nose and say the command word “Sit”. Your dog may lean upwards instead of sitting, but this is perfectly normal since they are leaning to something they want.
  • In this case, firmly put your hand above the dogs head and push down a bit so he gets the idea that you want him to sit. This should work. If not, try a few more times.
  • The exact moment your dog sits down is when you should offer him the treat and say “Good dog.” These are very basic words that the dog will learn when you train your dog to sit. We are basically associating these phrases with the treat so your dog can learn gradually.
  • If you are teaching your dog to sit at a very young age, you need to be aware that your puppy may take longer than expected to learn how sit.
